Women who do have symptoms are advised to see a doctor.

Women in Iceland are offered breast screenings and cervical screenings in accordance with directions from the Directorate of Health.

Women aged 40 to 69 years old are offered breast screenings every two years, and every three years when they are aged 70 to 74.

Women aged 23 to 29 are offered cervical screenings every three years, and every five years when they are aged 30 to 64.

Decline screening invitation

If you do not wish to receive an invitation to screenings, a requisition needs to go through the health care centre. The simplest way is to send a message on heilsuvera.is.

  • Log in to My pages on heilsuvera.is with digital certificates
  • Choose Communication and then New message
  • In the field „Subject“, write: „Remove from invitation list for cervical-and/or breast cancer screenings“
  • In the field „Description“, write a brief explanation for why you wish to be removed from the screening registry at the Coordination centre for cancer screenings

If you are unsure whether to go in for screenings, for example because of previous operations, we advise you to seek medical advice and information from your doctor.

You can also seek advice from us at the Coordination centre for cancer screenings.
